6 Reasons Why the Lions have what it Takes to Win the Super Bowl

The words "Lions" and "Super Bowl" are not usually used in the same sentence, but this Lions team has what it takes to win the Lombardi Trophy. Here are Six reasons why the Lions have what it takes to win the Super Bowl:

No. 6: A Franchise Quarterback

When the Lions acquired Jared Goff in a trade with the Rams during the 2021 offseason, it was clear that Goff would serve as an interim quarterback until the team found a franchise quarterback. During the 2022 season, he proved he was a playmaker rather than just a game manager. Following the 2022 season, the team announced that Goff would be the franchise quarterback. A franchise quarterback is essential for being a top team, and the Lions can check off that box. They also don't have to spend time finding a quarterback or choosing the wrong one.

No. 5: They finally have a good rushing game

The Lions have been notorious for always being terrible at running the ball, except for Barry Sanders. But now the team has what held them back from Super Bowl contention for decades. A rushing game has three pieces: A running back, a running scheme, and an offensive line. An effective rushing game requires two of those three to be effective. The Lions have a successful offensive line, ranking 5th out of 32. David Montgomery is a great running back; he played well in Chicago despite the rest of the team being in shambles. The arrival of Montgomery and the departure of Jammal Williams could change the scheme, making it one of the team's few question marks. However, the Lions have at least two of the three, giving them a great rushing game for the first time in 25 years.

No. 4: A Top-Tier Offense

It's clear why having an offense of elite caliber is crucial to Super Bowl victory. The Lions have just that. It starts in the trenches, with effective blocking from Penei Sewell, Frank Ragnow, and Jonah Jackson. Amon-Ra St. Brown would be the no.1 wideout on most teams, including his own. Kalif Raymond and Jameson Williams are also playmaking receivers to strengthen the passing game. The rushing game and Jared Goff were already mentioned as to why they are potent offensive weapons. When you put all those pieces together, you have an offense with little to no weakness.

No. 3: A Wide-Open NFC

For the past few years, the AFC has been a much more competitive conference than the NFC. That only amplified during the offseason with Aaron Rodgers moving to the Jets, adding another contender to the conference. The NFC, however, is wider open than ever, making the Lions' journey to the Super Bowl that much easier, and the only tougher opponents they may have to face will likely be the juggernaut Eagles and 49ers.

No. 2: A Young Roster

The Lions started their rebuild during the 2021 offseason, and the team's roster has been one of the league's youngest since. The Lions have only one player above age 30, making them the league's youngest roster. Their young and feisty roster will allow them to contend and dominate for years to come, giving plenty of Super Bowl opportunities, more than their NFC competitors.

No. 1: A Gritty, Old School Playsytle

In today's explosive and pass-happy NFL, we rarely see teams with a traditional playstyle, especially with a younger coach. However, the Lions fall into that category. Dan Campbell's squad has a gritty and rush-heavy style of play that the NFL doesn't see very often. That gives them a significant advantage over competitors, as other teams don't quite know how to play against it. This gritty, old-school playstyle caught teams off guard during the previous season, like the Packers, Jaguars, Jets, Vikings, and Bills. The Lions' playstyle will help them win the Super Bowl and make them a fun team to watch.
