The 7 Most disappointing MLB players so far this 2024 season

There are quite a bit of MLB players that have been disappointing thus far. Many disappointments are detrimental to their team, while others are less urgent. Here are the seven most disappointing MLB Players so far this 2024 season:

Corbin Carroll:

Through the first month of the 2024 MLB season, the Diamondbacks' offense and the whole team have looked rather sluggish thus far. Their disappointing 14-19 start after being the NFC Champions in the prior season, can be somewhat attributed to their 2023 Rookie of the Year winner already looking like a one-year wonder. Corbin Carroll was primarily known for his electric speed on the basepaths, stretching singles into doubles, and stealing bases left and right.

However, Carroll has had a difficult time getting on the bases, with him batting under the Mendoza line, at a crisp .192 this season. Carroll has quickly fallen into irrelevancy just as fast as he burst onto the scene just one year ago.

Of all the Giants' free agent signings that didn't pan out, Blake Snell is by far the worst, going from winning the 2023 Cy Young award to posting an ERA upwards of 11 in 2024. Snell has already allowed one-third of his runs given up last season just three games into 2024, so it doesn't look like Snell will win back-to-back Cy Youngs. The Giants are also yet to win a game with their $31 million per year "ace" on the mound. It's entirely likely that Blake Snell will make a comeback, but it would likely be on a different team, with him only signing a two-year contract with San Francisco.

In just one season, David Bednar has gone from being one of the MLB's closers to, simply put, one of the worst. In 2023, Bednar successfully saved 39 of 42 save opportunities, but he has already matched his blown save total from all of 2023 in just the first four opportunities of the 2024 season. Bednar's pitching has been slightly less shaky as of late, recording three consecutive saves without one blown during the past two weeks. However, Bednar is still allowing plenty of runs, so it's going to be considerable time until his 11.45 ERA lowers down to normal if it ever does.

Yandy Diaz:

So far, Yandy Diaz has followed up a career-best 2023 season with a career-worst in 2024. After leading the American League in batting average and winning the Silver Slugger award, Diaz has barely slugged the ball with an atrocious .288 slugging percentage. And it is simply implausible that Tampa Bay's underwhelming 16-18 start to their season has nothing to do with their former top hitter struggling to bat above .230.

After 6 straight seasons of recording an earned run average under 4, that streak is now in jeopardy with a rather disappointing start for the three-time All-Star. Bassitt's second season in Toronto has been less than stellar thus far, with a 5.45 ERA and 4.5 walks per 9 innings. However, Bassitt's 6-year ERA streak isn't his only streak in jeopardy, with his 6-season stretch of recording more wins than losses liable to breaking this season, with a subpar 2-5 record to start 2024. Chris Bassitt is most notable for his ability to stay healthy and pitch a lot of innings, so if anyone on this list can get back into their groove, it's Bassitt, but only time will tell.

Bo Bitchette:

For the last half-decade, Bo Bitchette has been a cornerstone of this Blue Jays team. But like a real cornerstone in a building, the severe lack of production from Bitchette is making the Blue Jays much shakier. If going from an annual .300+ batter to batting below the Mendoza line isn't disappointing, then I don't what is. However, Bitchette's plate performance isn't the only reason he makes this list, as he's already committed two errors this season at shortstop. Considering that Bo Bitchette has recorded stellar numbers every year of his career, his abysmal 2024 start is likely a temporary slump, but he has been quite disappointing nonetheless.

Corey Seager:

This list features players from both teams in the 2023 World Series, with the former league champion Corey Seager having a start to the 2024 season that's left a lot to be desired. Seager has begun his 2024 campaign with a less-than-stellar .607 OPS and a .229 batting average. Seager's power has seen an even sharper decline, hitting just two home runs and two doubles this season; a far cry from formerly leading the league in the latter category. The Rangers have had a quite mediocre first month of the 2024 season, and the lack of Corey Seager's bat is undoubtedly a factor.
