In today's pass-heavy, high-scoring NFL, the offense is more prominent than ever. That's why the teams with the best NFL offenses will have a significant advantage during the upcoming 2023 season.
No. 5: Buffalo Bills
The Bills' offense has been elite for the past three seasons and will stay elite throughout the upcoming 2023 season. Every playmaker on the offensive side of the ball has remained on the team during the offseason. Quarterback Josh Allen is a generational talent and throws to one of the most impressive receiving squads. This receiving core consists of superstar wideout Stefon Diggs, underrated deep threat Gabe Davis, and supporting members such as Dawson Knox and Isiah Mackenzie. The young running back James Cook should significantly improve during his second career season. The Bills' offense is the safest pick to be on this list.
No. 4: Detroit Lions
The Lions' old-fashioned, gritty playstyle is something we don't often see in today's high-scoring, pass-heavy NFL. Their grit and grind offensive scheme has caught and will continue to surprise many defenses. The offseason addition of running back David Montgomery will fit quite well in the scheme. The receiving core is stacked, containing three playmakers in Kalif Raymond, Jameson Williams, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Additionally, the roster is the league's youngest, so many of its talents are yet to hit their primes, thus an offensive improvement in 2023 is likely. Considering that the Lions' offense ranked 5th in points scored, putting them at the No. 4 spot is a safe bet.
No. 3: Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have the most explosive and versatile offense in the NFL. When you have two 1,000-yard receivers in A.J. Brown and Davonte Smith, you have an offense that is exceedingly difficult to contain. But on top of that, the Eagles also have a vaunted rushing game, thanks to RB Kenneth Gainwell's explosive running and QB Jalen Hurts's dual-threat abilities. The offseason loss of the 1,000-yard running back Miles Sanders won't be a big blow due to the depth of the Philadelphia roster. However, a loss like that could prevent them from becoming the best offense in 2023.
No. 2: San Francisco 49ers
When the 49ers traded for running back Christian McCaffrey halfway through the 2022 season, they won 11 straight games, making it to the NFC Championship. McCaffrey's dual-threat abilities added a layer of depth and explosiveness that the offense was missing. But the 49ers' offense has other cornerstones in the explosive receiver Deebo Samuel, the pathfinding tight end George Kittle, and Trent Williams, simply the best offensive lineman in the NFL. That offensive squad ranked 6th in points scored in 2022, allowing the 49ers' offense to reach new heights with McCaffrey for the entire upcoming season. However, the catch is that McCaffrey's health is a massive if. His dual-threat playstyle causes him to be prone to injury. Such an injury would be detrimental as the offensive scheme revolves around McCaffrey.
No. 1: Kansas City Chiefs
When the speedy wideout Tyreek Hill left the Chiefs in free agency during the 2022 offseason, their upcoming season became uncertain, especially the offense. But after the Chiefs' offense ranked 1st in scoring and became Super Bowl champions eight months later, it was proven that as long as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are on the Chiefs, they can win Super Bowls. During this offseason, the team lost two pass-catchers, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Mecole Hardman. But if the offense can be the league's best without the fastest man in football, then two averages won't be big blows to the Chiefs.
